Michigan Dog Trainer, Michigan Dog Training
Dog Class Descriptions
BASIC MANNERS (Dogs must be a “green light” dogs and current with vaccinations).  You will learn how to teach your dog to:  sit, down, come, walk on a loose leash, stay, pay attention to you, to greet people politely rather than jumping on them, and puppy raising issues.  Each week is packed with information, giving you the knowledge to train your dog to be a well behaved family member.  Please bring a hungry dog, plenty of tasty dog treats, and verification of your dog's vaccination records to the first night of class (DHLP, and Rabies if old enough).

ADVANCED MANNERS (CANINE GOOD CITIZEN) (Dogs must have previously completed a Basic Manners class and be a “green light” dog).  Some of the skills you will learn include:  Beginning heel by your side, Sit-Stay & Down-Stay with harder distractions and distance, Come despite harder distractions and distance, Go to a place on cue (from a distance and for longer duration), Calmly greet another dog team and other items on the CGC evaluation.  The American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation will be given on the last night of class for those who wish to have their dog evaluated. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the AKC.  The CGC exam is open to mix and purebred dogs.

FEISTY FIDO REHAB. (Dogs must be a “yellow light” dog and be current with vaccinations).  Does your dog have difficulty getting along with other dogs?  If so, a Feisty Fido class is the place to be!   Please bring verification of your dog’s vaccination records (DHLP, Rabies & Bordetella) to the orientation.  The Feisty Fido class is so popular that it fills up quickly and the class size is limited to only 4 dogs.  Aggression is usually a "heightened inappropriate sense of defensiveness" or a willingness to retain a resource.  Basically, the dog is stressed and is trying to protect itself or guard it's resources, the only way it knows how to; whether that be by cowering, growling, snapping, lunging or biting.  It has two options, to fight or to flee.  A stressed dog may use it's teeth to accomplish either intent.  However, when one looks at aggression for what it really is, then you're in a position to be able to help your dog move from a reactive state to a calmer thinking state of mind and therefore, exhibit more controllable and desired behavior.  In this class, you will learn:  how to read your dog’s challenging and fearful postures, proper safe handling skills, how to better prevent dangerous situations, and how to teach your dog basic obedience skills.  You will teach your dog how to:  relax around other dogs instead of acting aggressive or fearful, pay more attention to you rather than other dogs, and learn basic obedience skills despite distractions.

REMOTE ADVENTURES (Pre-requisites for the class are that dogs should be "green light dogs" and have basic knowledge of sit, down and come commands).  The Remote Adventures group class combines superior dog training amongst distractions in the real world with cutting edge technology.  Remote collar training is a very effective and humane training system that is easy for your dog to understand.  This equates to fast and reliable learning.

FUN AGILITY/RALLY/PROOFING  (Dog must have completed the Advanced Manners - CGC class or have earned a CGC certificate, be a "green light" dog, and current with vaccinations).  In this class, dogs learn how to run fun agility obstacles such as jumps and tunnels, Rally exercises (Rally can be described as a mixture of some agility exercises with fun obedience stations) preparing the dog team to participate in competitions if so desired.  Click here to see a demo video of Rally) and Obedience Proofing (a competition "heel", to stay despite increasing distance from your dog and ultimately be able to perform out of sight stays, etc.).  All three components will be covered but amount of time on each will be based upon the interests of the students registered for the class.

K9 SCENT DETECTION GAMES (Dogs must be a "green light" or former "yellow light" dogs who have completed a Basic Manners course and be current with vaccinations)  In this class you will learn how to develop your dog's natural scent detection abilities. Your dog will have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy.  You can compete at national events or do it just for fun with the entire family.  The whole family will love playing scent games with your dog.  Click here to learn more about scent games or watch a scent games video demonstration.

GROUP DOG SOCIALIZATION Michael sponsors a "meet up group" called MichiganDogTrainer.  It's composed of dog lovers who enjoy getting together for group walks and fun activities with their dogs.  It's not a training class but instead a meet up group for well mannered dogs.  For more information, visit Awesome Adventures.
