For the Basic Manners and Feisty Fido Rehab classes, there will be a student orientation the first night of class without dogs (however, if your Basic Manners dog will remain quiet despite being with other dogs or people, then you may bring your dog to the lecture/discussion). The orientation will cover topics such as: Why the Wolf Model (Alpha and Dominance training myths) for training dogs is outdated, How to recognize your dog’s stress behaviors before a bite occurs, Humane training equipment, How to modify your dog's behavior effectively and humanely, Factors that affect the dog's learning, and much more.
Note, for the above listed classes, dogs must be 20 weeks or older. For a puppy group socialization class (pups 10-19 weeks of age) contact the Humane Society of Huron Valley at 734-661-3513. There is another trainer that conducts the puppy classes at HSHV and registration for that class is done directly with HSHV. Whereas, the above listed classes are taught by Michael Burkey and registration is done via his registration page.
If you adopted your dog from the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) and take a Basic Manners class at the shelter, you qualify for a $15.00 gift certificate that can be used in their shelter store.
